چکیده

The theory of belief revision developed by GG ar-denfors and his colleagues characterizes the classes of reasonable belief revision operations. However, some of the assumptions made in the theory of belief revision are unrealistic from a computational point of view. We address this problem by considering revision operations that are based on a priority ordering over a set of sentences representing a belief state instead of using preference relations over all sentences that are accepted in a belief state. In addition to providing a semantic justiication for such operations, we investigate also the computational complexity. We show how to generate an epistemic entrenchment ordering for a belief state from an arbitrary priority ordering over a set of sentences representing the belief state and show that the resulting revision is very eecient. Finally, we show that some schemes for generating revision operations from bases can encode the preference relations more concisely than others.

Semantics of First Order Belief RevisionBased on Circumscription

The AGM postulates for knowledge base revision are a set of rationality postulates that revision operations on knowledge systems should satisfy. Deening an appropriate semantics for belief revision that satisses all of the postulates has been considered a challenging problem. In this paper we present a novel application of circumscription to deening a semantics of belief revision systems. First...

DL-Lite Contraction and Revision

Two essential tasks in managing description logic knowledge bases are eliminating problematic axioms and incorporating newly formed ones. Such elimination and incorporation are formalised as the operations of contraction and revision in belief change. In this paper, we deal with contraction and revision for the DL-Lite family through a model-theoretic approach. Standard description logic semant...

Belief Reasoning, Revision and Fusion by Matrix Algebra

Representation of belief states is an important issue for knowledge based systems. In this paper, we develop a matrix representation for ordered belief states and show that belief reasoning, revision and fusion can all be interpreted as operations of matrix algebra. Thus, the matrix representation can serve as the basis of algebraic semantics for belief logic.

A Semantic Approach to Nonmonotonic Reasoning: Inference Operations and Choice

This paper presents a uniform semantic treatment of nonmonotonic inference operations that allow for inferences from infinite sets of premisses. The semantics is formulated in terms of selection functions and is a generalization of the preferential semantics of Shoham (1987), (1988), Kraus, Lehman, and Magidor (1990) and Makinson (1989), (1993). A selection function picks out from a given set o...
